The Dallas Mavericks fell into a 0-3 hole in the 2024 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics after losing Game 3, 106-99, with their best player, Luka Doncic, not being present on the court during the crucial minutes of the game.

Doncic fouled out with 4:12 remaining and opened up about the game-changing play that might have swung the game in favor of the Celtics.

"It was tough. Probably wasn't the smartest thing. But it was a physical game and to get six fouls, I didn't expect it... It's tough. I always say it's easier to be in the game than being on the bench. I was more nervous on the bench," the 26-year-old said in an interview with ESPN reporter Malika Andrews.

The Slovenian guard also shared what transpired in the Mavs' huddle and how his teammates reacted to his sixth personal foul.

"It wasn't the smartest thing to do, especially in this situation, it's the Finals... [I told my teammates], 'My bad, you can't do that, especially in the NBA Finals," Doncic added.

Luka Doncic admits taking painkillers

During Game 2 of the series, reports stated that Doncic has been taking painkiller shots to address the many injuries he has been facing in the postseason.

Doncic dealt with a thoracic (chest) contusion in Game 2 and has been coping with a right knee sprain and left ankle soreness since the first round.

The five-time All-NBA First Team member told Andrews that he would probably take another painkiller shot ahead of Game 4 on Friday, June 14, at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
