The Washington Wizards have set their sights on a French phenom. They hold the second overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

The team that finished second worst in the league last season with a 15-67 record is poised to benefit greatly in the draft. As league insider Brett Seigel of ClutchPoints reported, strong signs point to French big man Alex Sarr as their choice.

The 19-year-old played in Australia for the 2023-24 season with the NBL's Perth Wildcats, averaging 9.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, and 0.9 assists in 17 minutes per game.

Sarr was projected as the top overall pick of this class by many experts, but it appears that the Atlanta Hawks, who won the first overall pick, have different plans for their assets.

Hawks looking at two prospects for top overall pick

Aside from Seigiel, league insider Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports also confirmed that the Hawks are looking into another French prospect, forward Zaccharie Risacher, as well as two-time national champion center Donovan Clingan of the UConn Huskies to be selected as this year's top overall pick.

The 2024 NBA Draft will last two days. The first round will be held on June 26 and 27 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and the second round will be held at ESPN's Seaport District Studios in Manhattan.

Fischer also mentioned that the Hawks are exploring options to trade veteran center Clint Capela, who has one year remaining on his $22 million contract.
