Superstar baseball pitcher Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers had surgery on Tuesday, Nov. 5, to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder.
Ten days before, he suffered a partial dislocation in Game 2 of the World Series. The Dodgers said he was treated by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache. For the World champs, this is great news for one of the best assets in the team.
Ohtani Played Through the Pain in the World Series
According to TMZ, the 30-year-old played through Games 3, 4, and 5 of the series despite the shoulder injury, sitting out only the latter innings of Game 2 after the injury.
Many fans had known of his dislocated shoulder but were unaware of the damage's extent- the torn labrum.
Ohtani has received praise for being a resilient man dedicated to his team. Many people can admire how he maintained his desire to play even in severe pain.
Ohtani Cheers With Fans at Championship
Still feeling the effects of his injury, Ohtani took his time to join in the celebration of their World Series win with his teammates. He attended the Dodgers' championship parade Friday morning in Los Angeles where, amidst the celebrations and along with fans and other fellow Dodgers, the city joined in celebrating their winning the title.
Ohtani's History of Injuries and Operations
Having an injury is no longer new to Japanese athletes. The top player underwent Tommy John surgery on his throwing elbow just last year. Now that he has had his latest surgery, fans hope he heals quickly and returns to playing his best.
