George Russell has made it crystal clear—he's not backing down from any battle with Max Verstappen. The British driver remains confident in his ability and isn't worried about rumors linking the reigning world champion to Mercedes.

Toto Wolff, Mercedes' team principal, has openly expressed his admiration for Verstappen and his desire to work with him in the future. While no deal materialized last year, speculation continues on about whether Mercedes will pursue the Red Bull star in 2025. Despite the rumors, Russell remains unfazed.

"I don't think there's any pressure whatsoever. All I need to do is continue doing what I'm doing, continue doing what I've done my whole career," Russell told BBC Sport. "So that changes nothing."

"And it's not even something I'm thinking about," he added. Because I 100% back myself. It's as simple as that. You perform and everything will be there for you."

Russell Ready for On-Track Battles with Verstappen

The rivalry between Russell and Verstappen has been a hot topic, especially after their clashes in recent seasons. Tensions peaked after the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix where both drivers admitted they had lost respect for each other.

"I wasn't going to just stand and be bullied around," Russell said. "People seem to always back down to him. And that's just not how I go about my business."

The Brit made it clear that he has no interest in being friendly with Verstappen on the track. His sole focus is on winning, and he expects Verstappen to have the same mindset.

No Fear in Facing Verstappen

According to a report by Formula1.com, Russell has never shied away from tough racing, and he sees his battles with Verstappen as just another challenge.

"I've never been scared to race against Max. I've always put up a fight," he concluded.

With the 2025 season fast approaching, the rivalry between Russell and Verstappen could reach new heights. Whether or not Verstappen ever lands at Mercedes, one thing is certain—Russell won't easily back down on the track.

In other news, legendary F1 driver Lewis Hamilton felt that he prepared his "very best" for the upcoming Australian Grand Prix next week. According to Sky Sports, the 40-year-old was grateful for the good testing they had last week.

More than that, he told the media that racing is what he really loves and being at Melbourne will be going to be reminiscent of his first Grand Prix experience.
