Houston's Patrick Beverley has a broken right hand and is expected to be out up to six weeks, paving the way for Jeremy Lin to return to the lineup as the Rockets regular starting point guard.
According to ProBasketballTalk.com, Beverley, 25, broke the fourth metacarpal of his hand. The newspaper adds Lin is the logical successor---provided he is healthy enough. Lin has missed 10 of the Rockets last 12 games with a sprained knee.
If Lin isn't ready to go, the Rockets are expected to turn to veteran guard Aaron Brooks, who has averaged 7.1 points and 2 assists in 17 minutes of action.
ProBasketball stresses the end results will be noticeable. In the 40 minutes Lin has played with the Rockets' other regular starters of Dwight Howard, James Harden, Chandler Parsons and Terrence Jones, Houston has allowed an average of 16 more points a game. By further comparison, the Rockets have allowed 99.7 points per 100 possessions with Beverley on the floor and 103.4 without him.
Individually, Beverly has averaged 9.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 24 starts, while Lin has averages of 14.3 points, 4.2 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 29 minutes.
