Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Bobby Miller is the latest player caught in the rumored trade web. While the team is performing at a top level in MLB, the organization's scouts might need to assess if he is still fit for the team's needs.
According to the insider, the shake-up could hint that Miller could seek better options in other teams. Ahead of the MLB trade deadline, this will be a tough decision to make for the defending World Series champions.
Dodgers' Injury Crisis Creating Roster Challenges
As MLB insider David Schoenfield reported, injuries have taken a toll on the Dodgers' pitching corps this season, putting several players on the 60-day injured list. That short-term relief for the 40-man roster is just temporary, however. Those players will come back eventually, and that is when decisions need to be finalized.
Schoenfield pointed out that since injured players don't yet count against the 40-man roster, the Dodgers have 47 players allocated technically. However, when veterans such as Clayton Kershaw return from rehab assignments, the team will have to make room, most likely needing a midseason rotation.
Bobby Miller Trade Rumors
Bobby Miller, who was once thought to be a leading candidate for the Dodgers' fifth starter role, has not been able to find consistency, according to LAFB.
While he displayed moments of brilliance, his recent recall against the Colorado Rockies ended in a brief, three-inning appearance before being returned to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Schoenfield recommends Miller, and fellow young starters Ben Casparius and Justin Wrobleski, to be in danger of being cut if the Dodgers are looking to strengthen their bench or bullpen without giving up on top prospects.
With a contending roster and World Series ambitions, the Dodgers may have to send out package deals of controllable young talent to fill more pressing needs, such as a solid center fielder or depth off the bench.
Luis Robert Jr. Talks Highlight Dodgers' Aggressive Approach
Last week, the Dodgers were rumored to be involved in a possible blockbuster trade for White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. That trade, which would have supposedly cost outfielder James Outman and a top prospect, has dissipated because of Robert's poor play in 2025.
Nevertheless, the interest indicated the Dodgers' openness to making aggressive moves, and if a willing trade partner emerges, Miller may be the kind of arm employed to make the deal sweeter. Although his raw ability is unquestionable, the organization may consider him disposable with the current roster build.
There is still time until the trade deadline, and that allows the Dodgers an opportunity to evaluate the health and performance of their roster. If Miller can stabilize his command and consistency in the minors, he could find himself back in the club's long-term plans.
