The 2025 NFL Draft is now in the books, but the San Francisco 49ers have a long way to go. Even after spending their 11 draft picks filling gaping needs — including taking edge rusher Mykel Williams with their first-round pick, the Niners have work to do if they are to remain a factor in the NFC.

Better still, a new list by Pro Football Network identifies potential trade or cut possibilities from throughout the league, and some of those names may be fantastic fits for San Francisco.

Ranging from pass rushers to secondary depth and offensive line support, these are five players the 49ers need to strongly pursue before the 2025 season kicks off.

Jadeveon Clowney: Experienced Pass Rusher to Supplement Bosa

While Mykel Williams was a good find, a seasoned presence like Jadeveon Clowney would help take the 49ers' defensive line to the next level.

The once No. 1 overall selection has accumulated 58 career sacks, 5.5 of which came in 2024. His pass-rushing prowess and ability to shut down the run would give much-needed relief opposite Nick Bosa, particularly during the stretch run of the postseason.

DaRon Bland: High-Risk, High-Reward Cornerback Option

Dallas Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland became a first-team All-Pro in 2023, but his season was cut short to seven games in 2024 due to injuries.

With the Cowboys taking Shavon Revel Jr. in the draft, Bland could become unnecessary. Bland, even in his current injured state, is a high-upside pick as a ball-hawking, elite coverage cornerback for a San Francisco secondary seeking depth.

Jamel Dean: Consistent Coverage Corner With Ceiling

Tampa Bay's Jamel Dean could be another cornerback to ask about. Pro Football Focus graded Dean as the 26th-best corner in the league last year, with a 75.75 defensive grade.

The Buccaneers just signed two rookie corners, so they may make Dean available through trade. With two years remaining on his contract and a solid body of work, Dean provides instant assistance and some roster relief, even with a $15.1 million cap charge in 2025.

Liam Eichenberg: Cost-Effective Upgrade for the O-Line

The 49ers need depth and consistency on the interior offensive line, and Dolphins lineman Liam Eichenberg fits the bill. With 52 career starts, Eichenberg brings valuable experience and versatility.

According to Niners Wire, Miami's recent additions, James Daniels and rookie Jonah Savaiinaea, may push Eichenberg to the trade block. With only a $1.3 million cap hit, he's a cost-effective option that could solidify San Francisco's protection schemes.

A.J. Epenesa: Consistent Production with Edge Depth

Buffalo's A.J. Epenesa has had at least six sacks in each of the past three seasons and is in the final year of his contract.

With the Bills bringing in Landon Jackson in the draft and signing Joey Bosa, Epenesa could be pushed out of the rotation. His $7.4 million cap figure is doable, and his reliability makes him an excellent rotational piece in the 49ers' pass rush.

Savvy Trades Would Send 49ers Over the Edge

The 49ers already have one of the league's best rosters, but championship squads are constructed by filling holes. With the trade market providing established veterans at crucial spots, San Francisco needs to act while the iron is hot.

Plucking one or two of these players would be the difference maker during playoff time.
