Celebrity Boxing is the name of the game right now, and poker player Joe Castaneda aka "Baby Joe" is leaving no stone unturned in his next bout against NFL legend Adrian Peterson.
Although the two previously exchanged punches in a poker room a few months ago, Castaneda is now preparing for an official rematch, and this time he's going into the ring with professional coaching behind him.
From Poker Table to Boxing Ring
The improbable feud between Castaneda and Peterson started in May after a heated argument at a poker table in Houston. According to TMZ Sports, the initial exchange of words escalated into fisticuffs, with the two men punching each other in a now-viral clip.

Neither man emerged clearly victorious, but the video revealed unexpected combat instincts by both camps. This made people think that they are up for a ring challenge.
Fast forward to today: both men have signed contracts with Celebrity Boxing, and the fight is a go. While promoter Damon Feldman is putting together logistics: date, location, and streaming partners, "Baby Joe" has not wasted any time plunging into rigorous training.

Castaneda Trains With Combat Coach in Vegas
Determined to make a statement, Castaneda has enlisted the help of combat sports coach Teddy Concepcion at Oasis Gym in Las Vegas.
TMZ Sports captured exclusive footage of Castaneda working on mitt drills, footwork, and defense. He's serious about turning heads, telling reporters earlier this month, "Time to get in shape and sharpening up these hands to put on a show!!! Baby Joe is here for all the smoke!!!"
Although famous for his poker face, Castaneda is now working on getting a fighter's edge, both mentally and physically. This will be his first official bout in boxing, but based on his initial training sessions, he's applying top-shelf energy and dedication to the fight.
Peterson's Status Still Unclear
As for 40-year-old Adrian Peterson, his current fitness level is not known. Fans will recall, though, that the one-time MVP has previously tried the sport.
Peterson entered the ring for a 2022 exhibition bout against NFL running back Le'Veon Bell. While he didn't emerge as a winner, he displayed good fundamentals and brute strength.
Whether he's training behind closed doors or holding off and then turning it up a notch later, Peterson also delivers the NFL level of athleticism and many years of world-class conditioning. Yet, with Castaneda already pounding away in the gym, the bout may be more evenly contested than anticipated.
Peterson should take this match more seriously. As ESPN reported in 2024, the Houston judge requested him to turn over his assets worth over $12 million. If he wins the Celebrity Boxing, this could be his turning point for a debt-free life.
