The Detroit Red Wings closed their five-game road trip with a 1-0 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at T-Mobile Arena.

With a strong performance from goaltender John Gibson, Detroit's offense couldn't break through as it suffered its first shutout loss of the 2025 season.

Red Wings End Road Trip With Missed Opportunities

The Red Wings (9-5-0) completed their five-game trip with a solid 3-2 mark, but Tuesday's game was one that left them frustrated. Early on, Detroit created quality scoring chances yet had difficulty finishing, per the Detroit Free Press.

Early in the third, a near goal by Alex DeBrincat almost put the Wings on the board, but Akira Schmid came up big, stopping both his initial shot and the rebound. A power play midway through the period had Detroit hoping.

Rookie Emmitt Finnie found himself near the crease but couldn't get enough space, sending a backhand shot wide.

Vegas Strikes First and Holds Tough

It wasn't until 13:45 of the second period that the Golden Knights finally broke the deadlock. As Jack Eichel entered the zone, his setup led to a scramble near the net. Gibson made a pair of saves on Brandon Saad's shot, but Ivan Barbashev pounced on the rebound and pushed it past him for the game's only goal.

It was a rare lapse for a Detroit team that has been sharp in second periods this season. The Wings managed just five shots on goal during the frame, while Vegas outpaced them with relentless forechecking and faster puck movement.

Gibson's Stellar Goaltending Keeps Detroit Close

John Gibson was spectacular in goal, even without much offensive support. The veteran netminder made 14 saves in the first period alone and ended with 33 total to keep the Red Wings within striking distance. He was composed under pressure, giving Detroit several chances at turning the tide, but the offense failed to capitalize.

A late offside challenge erased what would have been a second goal by Vegas that would have iced the game, allowing Detroit a final glimmer of hope. Gibson was pulled for an extra attacker in the final minutes, but despite aggressive play and heavy traffic in front of the net, the Wings couldn't find the equalizer.

Meanwhile, Red Wings Insider shared an injury update on Patrick Kane. According to Head Coach Todd McLellan, they expect to see Kane in action in practice soon.
