Houston Rockets guard Jeremy Lin is leaving Nike for a new deal with rival Adidas, according to Comcast Sports.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, as Adidas plans to soon make an official announcement, a source told Comcast the deal is set to be finalized on Friday and is trumpeted as a move that increases the athletic apparel maker's global brand.
In his second season in Houston, the 25-year-old Lin is averaging 14.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 24 appearances this season. An undrafted rookie out of Harvard, Lin burst on the national scene during a late 2012 season run with the Knicks where he averaged 15 points and six assists, three rebounds and two steals over 35 games.
With that, the "Linsanity" craze was born, netting Lin a lucrative three-year with the Rockets in summer free agency. After starting all 82 games in 2012-13 for the Rockets and averaging 13 points and six assists, Lin has shared starts and minutes at the point this season with second-year guard Patrick Beverley.
Currently the Rockets, led by the trio of Lin, James Harden and Dwight Howard, stands as the No. 5 seed in the Western Conference at 21-13.
