P.J. Hairston To Mavericks D-League Team? Suspended Tar Heel Enters Affiliate League After UNC Career Ends [VIDEO]

The Dallas Mavericks' developmental affiliate team is expected to claim former North Carolina star guard P.J. Hairston off waivers, according to Yahoo! Sports.

The Texas Legends will be the next stop for Hairston after school officials announced on Dec. 20 they will not seek to have him reinstated from the NCAA following repeated rules violations including the use of rental cars linked to a convicted felon.

As a sophomore, Hairston led the Tar Heels in scoring last season at 4.6 points a game and made 89 3-pointers. He filed paperwork on Friday to play in the NBA's D-League.

Yahoo reports the Legends were able to select Hairston because they were first on the D-League's waiver list. The 21-year-old Hairston will not be eligible to play in the NBA this season and can file to join the 2014 NBA draft.

In a similar instance, after being kicked off Georgia Tech's roster, Glen Rice Jr. led Rio Grande to a 2013 D-League title before being taken 35th overall in last year's NBA draft by the Washington Wizards.
