Jim Ross is almost back in control.
The legendary WWE announce, thought by many to have been fired by WWE chairman Vince McMahon for failing to control a drunk Ric Flair at a wrestling Symposium last summer, is close to signing with Fox Sports, he wrote on his blog, jrsbarbq.com, as reported by USA TODAY Sports' For the Win.
Ross said he wrote a piece about Flair's fear of attending the San Francisco 49ers-Carolina Panthers playoff game for Fox Sports and said he was close to landing a permanent job there.
"I have not yet signed with Fox but we are obviously close and are hopeful that we can finalize the contract next week. Fox provides an amazing platform for creative work and for the many projects that I am working on during the most unretired time of my life.
Fox has some potentially, amazing creative ideas for me of which I hope that we get to collaborate on sooner than later."
According to For the Win, Ross does have some experience as a football broadcaster, having called games for McMahon's ill-fated XFL.
Ross was last seen hosting the "WWE 2K14 30 Years of Wrestlemania" symposium in August. According to Larry Brown Sports, the symposium panel included Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, Rey Mysterio, Steve Austin, Paul Heyman, Mick Foley and Flair.
Larry Brown Sports reported that when Flair went on a rant, talking about his deceased son, fellow wrestler John Cena's drinking and about his own drinking.
At one point after Flair's rant, Ross said, "This is real. This is reality television at its best. I've lost complete control of my job. I'm sure I'll never be asked back, and this has probably destroyed what career I have left."
Ross, who was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007, later added, "I'd like to thank Grey Goose for sponsoring this part of the broadcast."
Larry Brown Sports commented that Ross' inability to control Flair may have led to his dismissal.
It will be interesting to find out what Fox Sports has in store for him.
