Kevin Durant has a string of eight straight games with 30 or more points, leading the social media sector of NBA fans to to give him a new nickname.
After years of alternating between being simply known as "KD" or "Durantula," a new non-scientific Complex.com reports a Reddit poll has settled on the moniker of the "Slim Reaper" as most fitting for the NBA's 6-9, 240 pound leading scorer.
Durant blitzed Portland for 46 points on Tuesday night, less than 48 hours after he torched Golden State for 54. With All-Star teammate Russell Westbrook sidelined with a knee injury, Durant has averaged 38 points, six rebounds and six assists in leading the Thunder to a 7-3 mark over their last 10 games.
Durant's onslaught has kept the Thunder ( 32-10) close to the top of the standings in the ultra-competitive Western conference, as they trial they top-running San Antonio Spurs by just a half game.
Later, Blazers guard Mo Williams took to Twitter to marvel of Durant's exploits "I think he could have scored on Jesus tonight."
All the individual praise aside, Durant chose to reflect on the efforts of his team. "Total team effort, he told reporters. "We didn't get discouraged after they hit tough shots and we missed shots."
