Phoenix Suns Expected To Chase Rudy Gay In Summer Free Agency [VIDEO]

The Phoenix Suns are expected to target Sacramento forward Rudy Gay should he utilize his player option and opt for summer free agency.

According to USA TODAY Sports, the Suns are desperate to find a star-level talent that management is convinced would be able to help the franchise build upon its surprising 2014 showing and Gay may be that man.

After flirting with the thought of acquiring power forward Pau Gasol from the Lakers, USA TODAY reports team GM Ryan McDonough now appears sold on the idea of landing a star-level perimeter player.

Gay, who has a player option for next season worth $19.3 million, is in his eighth NBA season and has averaged 18 points and six rebounds over his career. At 20.5 points per game, he is enjoying his best scoring season with the Kings this year and is also netting a career-high three assists a night.

Should plans with Gay fall through, one rival front office executive told USA TODAY the team is also open to chasing Philadelphia veteran forward Thaddeus Young, who is averaging 18 points and six rebounds thus far this season. The 25-year-old Young is in his sixth NBA season.
