A strange twist has been added the list of allegations facing rape suspect Darren Sharper.
USA TODAY Sports reported Tuesday that Sharper, the 14-year NFL veteran and ex-television analyst once wrote an essay about violence against women for a book in 2010.
This is the same Sharper that now faces two rape charges in Los Angeles and could face five more rape charges, pending an investigation.
Sharper is scheduled to appear in a Los Angeles courtroom Thursday to answer to charges that he drugged two women's drinks with sedatives to knock them out and raped them when they were unconscious, the USA TODAY Sports report said.
He posted a $200,000 bail after his Jan. 17 arrest, but Los Angeles prosecutors will ask a judge to raise the bail to $10 million because Sharper now is the subject of an investigation into seven other rape cases in four states that included 11 cases of drugging.
If convicted of the two rape charges in Los Angeles, Sharper faces up to 30 years in prison.
In 2010, Sharper wrote his essay on violence against women for a book titled, "NFL Dads Dedicated to Daughters," a collaboration of written pieces submitted for "A Call to Men," an organization devoted to the prevention of violence against women.
Tony Porter, A Call to Men co-founder, asked several NFL players, including Sharper, to write an essay about their daughters. Sharper's daughter is now about 16 years old, USA TODAY Sports reported.
"As my first born, she is definitely special, and I am thankful for the positive influence she has had on me," Sharper wrote in the book. "Sacrificing for her instilled selflessness in me that I know I wouldn't have gotten any other way. Playing football can be glamorous at times, but being a father keeps me humble... My daughter makes (me) mindful of how women are treated, undervalued and exploited, which is why I felt compelled to take advantage of this opportunity to speak up about domestic violence."
Porter did not return calls to USA TODAY Sports seeking comment.
On Sept. 22, 2013, Sharper also tweeted a message to promote a women's football camp near Slidell, La. An alleged rape victim in Louisiana met Sharper at an event for New Orleans Saints players the same day he tweeted about the camp, according to court documents reported by USA TODAY Sports.
After the event, Sharper took her to a bar and gave her a laced drink, which she consumed. Her next memory was waking up the next morning while Shaper was sexually assaulting her, the record indicates.
The woman went to the hospital for a sexual assault examination on Sept. 24, and a swab taken from the alleged victim showed the presence of Sharper's DNA. That same day, Sharper was a star attendee at the football camp for women, intended to raise breast cancer awareness.
