Derek Jeter ready to start a family after Yankees retirement? [VIDEO]

Derek Jeter says part of the reason he decided to announce his retirement at the end of the season is because he is ready to begin the second half of his life.

"I feel the time is right," Jeter told ESPN. "There are other things I want to do"

Jeter told ESPN among those things is starting a family, doing more philanthropic work and extending his business ventures. Jeter played in just 17 games last season while nursing a series of injuries and apparently used the time to ponder his life beyond the diamond.

The Yankees capatain has been romantically linked to model Hannah Davis and over the years has famously dated such beatuies as Jessica Biel, Jessica Alba, Mariah Carey, Vanessa Minillo, Scarlett Johansson, Adrianna Lima, Minka Kelly and Jordanna Brewster. Now, perhaps, he's trying to settle down.

While insisting his physical conditioning had nothing to do with his decision, Jeter admits he determined months ago this would be his last year. "Physically, I feel great," he told ESPN. "The thing that means the most to me is to be remembered as a Yankee."

Jeter enters his final season needing just four hits to move past Paul Molitor's 3,319 for eighth place all time. He has also played in the most career playoff games and has racked up the most playoff hits and runs in history in leading the Yankees to five championships.

Jeter is also the only Yankee with 3,000 hits and his 3,316 are sixth-most for a player with one franchise, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
