It seems safe to say Metta World Peace's homecoming didn't go quite like he imagined.
The New York Knicks are expected to buyout the volatile forward and native son, perhaps as early as this weekend. The veteran forward has fallen out of coach Mike Woodson's rotation after being hampered by a string of lingering injuries early in the season.
"Thank NYC for everything," World Peace tweeted on Saturday. "Thanks for having me. I will always be grateful. My agent is working on a buyout. No disrespect to the city. Luv U."
The Knicks signed the veteran forward to a two-year deal in summer free agency worth roughly $3 million. Since arriving, he is averaging a career low 13 minutes and 5 points per game. Overall, World Peace has appeared in just 29 games this season and is shooting just 39.7 percent.
All season long, Woodson has preferred a swingman rotation of J.R. Smith, Iman Shumpert and more recently promising rookie Tim Hardaway Jr. At power forward, the bulk of the minutes have gone to league No. 2 scorer Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire.
