Aaron Hernandez murder case update: NFL vet moved to restricted area after beating handcuffed inmate? [VIDEO]

Aaron Hernandez has been moved to a more isolated version of the Bristol County Jail amid reports the man he beat "pretty good" in a jailhouse fight earlier this week was handcuffed during the confrontation and unable to defend himself.

According to TMZ, for the next 30 days Hernandez will be moved from solitary confinement to an even more restrictive part of the facility where he will be required to spend 23 hours a day in his cell, including eating his meals there.

"I'm not happy that there may have been a breakdown in our system -- in our protocols," Sheriff Tom Hodgson told TMZ. "When we have failures, the first thing we look at and I look at is, number one, how did this happen? And number two, how do we make sure this doesn't happen again?"

The former New England Patriots tight end will also now be required to wear waist chains and leg irons each time he leaves his cell. Previously, he has been allowed to be out of handcuffs at times.

TMZ reports Hernandez was not in cuffs during Tuesday's incident that took place in a common area of the Bristol County House of Correction. Typically, only one inmate at a time is supposed to be out of his cell, and authorities insist they are now investigating how that procedure was broken.

The 24-year-old Hernandez remains jailed without bail in the murder of former associate Odin Lloyd, whose bullet-riddled body was found less than a mile from his North Attleborough mansion last June.

Police have since speculated Lloyd may have been killed because he had knowledge of Hernandez's alleged involvement in other violent crimes.
