Aaron Hernandez has been hit with a $12 million suit by the family of two men gunned down in a July 2012 drive-by shooting in downtown Boston.
Already jailed on first-degree murder charges in the execution-style slaying of Odin Lloyd in June of last year, police have also publicly declared the former New England Patriots tight end a suspect in the shooting deaths of Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado.
According to the Boston Herald, the wrongful death suit directly charges "on July 16, 2012, ... the Defendant willfully, recklessly and/or maliciously shot a firearm from inside his motor vehicle. The fatal attack was without provocation or justification."
According to The Herald, Abreu and Furtado were at the same Tremont Street nightclub as Hernandez and associates on the night in question. In a search warrant unsealed earlier this year, police allege Hernandez's SUV is shown on surveillance video circling around the block near the club and passing the victims "at a slow rate of speed."
"There is probably cause to believe that Aaron Hernandez was operating the suspect vehicle used in the shooting homicides of Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado, and may have been the shooter," police laid out in subsequent court documents.
Lloyd's family has also filed a civil wrongful death suit against Hernandez, who remains held without bail.
