LeBron James' sixth season with the Los Angeles Lakers concluded with another playoff loss, sparking doubts about his future with the team.

The 39-year-old has a player option worth $51.4 million for the 2024-25 season, but he could decline it and enter free agency this summer.

Questions about his future arose after the Lakers' season-ending loss against the Denver Nuggets on Monday, April 29, and James remained mysterious about it.

"Uhhhhhm. I'm not gonna answer that. I appreciate it," the NBA's all-time leading scorer said during the post-game conference.

In the meantime, the Lakers remain open to exploring various options for James' return, including discussions about the maximum three-year, $164 million extension they are eligible to offer, per The Athletic.

James would be 42 years old by the contract's conclusion if it goes through.

Lakers open to drafting Bronny James

In addition to offering a significant sum of money unprecedented for an athlete his age, the Lakers are open to the idea of drafting his son, Bronny James.

Bronny has entered the 2024 NBA Draft while also in the college basketball transfer portal following his freshman season with the USC Trojans, indicating that he is keeping his options open.

However, some analysts speculate that he may not be fully prepared for the professional level and could benefit from remaining in college to develop his skills further.
