The Houston Texans and Ed Reed continue their negotiations after failing to reach a deal for the former Ravens safety to join the team on Friday. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Reed left the facility in order to tend to a previous engagement.
A source previously told ESPN that the Texans have a 50-50 chance of signing the all-pro safety. Reed arrived in Houston aboard team owner Bob McNair's private jet on Thursday.
The 34-year-old Reed is a nine-time Pro Bowler and the Ravens' franchise leader in interceptions with 61, and his 1,541 return yards off of turnovers is an NFL record. Reed won the NFL defensive player of the year award in 2004.
If Reed decides not to return to Baltimore, he will be the latest starter to depart from the defending Super Bowl champions. Over the past week, Baltimore has released safety Bernard Pollard and guard Bobbie Williams, traded wide receiver Anquan Boldin to San Francisco and lost linebackers Dannell Ellerbe and Paul Kruger in free agency. Linebacker Ray Lewis and center Matt Birk elected to retire following the team's Super Bowl victory.
