U.S. Open Women's Golf [VIDEO]: Michelle Wie Received Flowers From Adam Sandler After U.S. Open Victory, Breakout 2014 Ahead

Michelle Wie is back on top of the world after she claimed her first major title with a two stroke U.S. Open victory. If that wasn't enough for Wie, she was then sent flowers by none other than Happy Gilmore himself, Adam Sandler.

Wie spoke at the pre-tournament news conference Thursday at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship and said she received a gift from the comedian turned actor.

“I feel like that’s the biggest prize in golf, getting flowers from Happy Gilmore,”

Sandler and Wie know each other from playing in a Pro Junior Challenge when Wie was just 15 years old and it looks as if the two have stayed in contact. Wie’s first major comes at the perfect time for her as she has been scrutinized for much of her career for not being able to close out tournaments.

The 24-year-old Wie has plenty of time to rack up more major titles and much of the criticism comes from the fact that she was touted as the next greatest player when she turned pro at age 16. Wie held off fellow American Stacy Lewis in the final round of the U.S. Open to claim her fourth ever win on tour with a score of 2-under par.

Wie might be able to use the momentum of such a fantastic victory to fuel her game in upcoming tournaments and regain some of the hype that surrounded her for so long. Wie will be back in action at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship this weekend and if she wins again we can only hope it will force an appearance by Happy Gilmore.

Wie is currently ranked the Rolex Ranking's No. 7 golfer in the world.
