The Chicago Bulls officially traded in Carlos Boozer for Pau Gasol on Tuesday.

According to the Chicago Daily Herald, the Bulls used their amnesty provision to waive Boozer and his $16.8 million salary without affecting their salary cap.
The Bulls needed to clear cap space to sign free-agent forward Pau Gasol, who spent the last seven seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers and was part of two championship teams in 2009 and 2010. The Bulls also are looking to add 2011 draft pick Nikola Mirotic.
"Carlos epitomized professionalism in everything he did for the Bulls both on the court, and in the community, during his time here in Chicago," Bulls general manager Gar Forman said in a statement. "Over the last four seasons, Carlos' productivity helped elevate our team to another level. I have nothing but respect for Carlos, and certainly wish him the best as he moves forward."

The Daily Herald reported that Boozer appeared in 280 games (all starts) and averaged 15.5 points per game, 9.0 rebounds per game and 2.0 assists per game in 30.4 minutes per game and shot 49.1 percent from the field in four seasons with the Bulls.
Gasol has averaged 18.3 points during his 14-year NBA career with the Memphis Grizzlies and the Lakers. He also averaged 9.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.
He joins a cast that includes Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, Taj Gibson and Jimmy Butler as the Bulls try to match the Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pacers as the elite teams in the Eastern Conference.
Boozer likely will find another team quickly but not at such a high price. The announcement of LeBron James' return to the Cavaliers set off the free-agency process as several teams then used the money they had to lure other free agents.
