Metta World Peace, the player formerly known as Ron Artest, has decided in light of his new contract in the Chinese Basketball Association to change his name once again.

According to China Daily, World Peace will change his name to Panda Friend as he starts his career anew in the CBA. World Peace tweeted about a possible name change when he departs for China, but no other source has confirmed “Panda Friend” to be the name he has chosen.

World Peace has been quite a social media icon in China as his name has registered incredible numbers on the Chinese twitter-like social media Sina Weibo. According to China Daily, World Peace has registered search numbers the likes that the social media site has never seen.

“The news of Artest's joining CBA was at the same time closely followed by Chinese web users as 8,960,000 entries for "Metta World Peace signs with CBA" were recorded on Baidu.com.

The news also went viral on China's social media as the topic "World Peace signs with CBA" got 25.75 million hits on Sina Weibo and an official account called "Metta_World_Peace", credited as "NBA star, serves for New York Nicks" by SinaWeibo, were followed by 967,204 followers.”

Ron Artest, Metta World Peace or Panda Friend, it doesn’t matter as he is officially the highest paid CBA player after signing a one-year deal with Sichuan Blue Whales worth $1.43 million.
