Carolina Panthers Rumors: Dwayne Bowe Could Be Cut By Chiefs, Panthers Perfect Fit? [VIDEO]

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe has been suspended for one game after violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, and may be in danger of being cut by the team according to reports.

Bowe was pulled over in Missouri in November and found to be in possession of marijuana. He later pleaded guilty to charges of littering and defective equipment while a passenger claimed the drugs were his, and that Bowe didn't know they were in the vehicle.

Should Bowe be cut by Kansas City, the Carolina Panthers may represent a perfect fit.

Bowe is still under contract with the Chiefs, but ProFootballTalk.com's Mike Florio has speculated a release may be on the way because of the guaranteed money Bowe's suspension erases.

Florio wrote, "The suspension most likely voids the remaining fully guaranteed money in Bowe's contract: $8.75 million in 2014 and $1.5 million in 2015. It creates a window for the Chiefs to dump Bowe, avoiding more than $10 million and creating an immediate $8.75 million in 2014 cap space."

Thanks to problems staying under the salary cap, the Panthers were forced to let go of many of their top options in the passing game from 2013. Currently, rookie Kelvin Benjamin is the frontrunner to headline the receiving corps despite no NFL experience, and profiling as a raw talent that needs seasoning.

Bowe hasn't put up "elite" numbers the past few seasons, but his production from last season was at least in line with what departed wideout Steve Smith posted in 2013.

Bowe peaked in 2010, catching 72 passes for 1,162 yards and 15 touchdowns, both career-highs. Since 2010 his production has steadily declined though; over the past two seasons Bowe's averaged 58 catches, 737 yards and only four touchdowns.
