Vanderbilt Commodores (0-1, 0-0 SEC)

Ole Miss jumped three spots in the AP Poll despite a subpar performance in Week 1, but they will need a better effort on offense if they are to go to 2-0 against SEC rival Vanderbilt.

Ole Miss didn’t look great as they took at 7-6 lead into the fourth quarter against an unranked Boise State team, but pulled it out late as they scored 28 in the fourth quarter to win 35-13. Vanderbilt dropped their first game of the season at home against the Temple Owls 37-7 and are now looking to rebound against a team they have owned recently.

Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said that he expects a better effort from his team this week and took his share of the blame for the lackluster showing.

"We played tentative and not very physical," Freeze said. "We did a poor job of preparing our kids and we've got to get that fixed.”

"We're not going to overlook Vanderbilt," Freeze said. "It's an SEC football game on the road. They have good players, particularly on the defensive line, which is a good place to start in this league.”

Ole Miss leads the all-time series against Vanderbilt 48-38-2, but the Commodores are 5-2 in the last seven meetings. Ole Miss will have their chance to prove they are a legitimate contender when they play No. 2 Alabama, No. 9 Texas A&M, No. 12 LSU and No. 5 Auburn over the span of five weeks in October.
