Manny Pacquiao Next Fight: Danny Garcia Targeted By Freddie Roach After Chris Algieri [VIDEO]

Manny Pacquiao has a fight lined up for November 22 against Chris Algieri, a relatively unknown fighter who entered the boxing public's consciousness this summer by upsetting Ruslan Provodnikov at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and taking his WBO junior welterweight belt.

Algieri is moving up to welterweight to gun for Pacquiao's 147-lb. crown now, but Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach is looking ahead.

"My first choice for Manny's next fight is Danny Garcia. I know it's out there," Roach said.

"It's a great fight for Manny at 140 or 147. Right now Manny is fighting at 144 for this fight. If he feels good at 144 he'll go to 140. If he doesn't then we'll go to 147. He's really more of a 140-pounder, his walking around weight is 142."

Pacquiao would represent a jump back up in competition for Garcia, who since upsetting Lucas Matthysse in September 2013 has fought back-to-back opponents with low profiles.

Garcia struggled to a majority decision in Puerto Rico in March against Mauricio Herrera, over whom he had been a big favorite. He followed up that performance with a knockout win over Rod Salka in Brooklyn on August 9, but was criticized for choosing Salka.

The fight was a mismatch that the sanctioning bodies wouldn't approve for a title fight, reducing it from a 12-round scrap to 10. Garcia hardly needed that much time-he knocked Salka down three times in the second round en route to a quick victory.

While a Garcia-Pacquiao fight could be big business, it has been speculated that a unification fight between Garcia, who holds the WBC and WBA belts, and IBF champion Lamont Peterson would be next up for him. Peterson defended his title as the co-feature to Garcia on the August 9 card against Edgar Santana.
