Canelo Alvarez, the biggest-name fighter in Golden Boy Promotions' stable, will be fighting on HBO, not Showtime, for the foreseeable future. According to Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix, the bread-breaking between Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya and Top Rank CEO Bob Arum has reached a new level.

Mannix also reported that Joshua Clottey, 37, will be announced soon as Alvarez's December 6 opponent. James Kirkland and Demetrius Andrade were also candidates, but Kirkland has signed on to face Gabriel Rosado in Atlantic City in November, while Andrade is likely to fight Matt Korobov for the vacant WBO middleweight title.
Alvarez has two victories in 2014; the first was a wipeout of Alfredo Angulo that resulted in a 10th-round TKO, and the second was a hotly disputed split decision win over Erislandy Lara. Clottey has won his past three fights, but how much he has left for elite competition is in question at 37 years old. The last time Clottey faced top-level stars was in 2009 and 2010, when he lost back-to-back fights vs. Miguel Cotto and Manny Pacquiao. After losing to Pacquiao, Clottey took an almost two-year hiatus from boxing.
Mannix panned the matchup on Twitter, calling it a "truly terrible fight."

Alvarez's last fight on HBO was against "Sugar" Shane Mosley, whom he battered for 12 rounds en route to a unanimous decision victory.
