Boston Red Sox Rumors: Yoenis Cespedes Being Shopped For Pitching, Tigers, Orioles Are Candidates

The Boston Red Sox have had MLB's busiest offseason thus far, and it seems like more action is on the way. Outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, whom they acquired at the trade deadline for Jon Lester, may be on the way out with the Detroit Tigers and Baltimore Orioles showing interest.

Boston signed Pablo Sandoval to play third base, and Hanley Ramirez to apparently man left field, creating an outfield glut. The logical move is to now ship Cespedes out for pitching, and the Tigers look like a match.

Porcello was the Tigers fourth starter in 2014, posting a 15-13 record with a 3.43 ERA and 1.23 WHIP. While he was behind the likes of David Price and Justin Verlander in Detroit, he'd likely front Boston's rotation as currently constituted. Another possible destination for Cespedes could be Baltimore, the defending American League East champions who just lost the 2014 MLB home run leader, Nelson Cruz, who took his 40 home runs to Seattle.

The Orioles pairing is more of a longshot. While Cespedes seems to be a nearly ideal fit for them in Camden Yards, the O's do not necessarily have the prospects to match up. It's not likely they'd surrender upper tier prospects like Dylan Bundy for Cespedes, who only has 2015 left on his current contract before hitting free agency, while their lesser prospects may not be good enough to warrant a former All-Star.
