Peyton Manning Milestone: 'The Sheriff' Set To Break Favre's Yardage Record Against Packers Or Colts?

Despite the lackluster finish to the 2014 season and the offseason personnel changes that have happened, the Denver Broncos are still likely to enter the 2015 season as one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl. A lot of that has to do with the presence of star quarterback Peyton Manning.

Marcus Mariota To Be The Next Blaine Gabbert?

Manning is a surefire Hall of Famer, and he is unquestionably one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. He already holds a number of career and single-season passing records, and he is likely to set another one this season. Manning is second on the all-time career passing yardage list with 69,691 yards, and he trails Brett Favre by just 2,147 yards. Barring some sort of major injury, Manning will get that record before Thanksgiving, and possibly before Halloween.

According to Pro Football Talk, it is entirely possible that Manning will set the record against one of two very meaningful opponents. If Manning accumulates passing yards at a career-average rate this season, he will break the record in Week 9, which just so happens to be the week that Denver faces off against Manning's former team, the Indianapolis Colts.

If Manning gains yards at above a career-average rate (which has been the norm in Denver), then he would likely break the record in Week 8, when the Broncos face the Green Bay Packers, Favre's old team.

The NFL tries to see major milestones happen in significant games, which is why they stacked Denver's schedule in such a way as to see them play the teams that Favre and Manning are most associated with in consecutive weeks. If he gets the record during either game, it will certainly be a special moment.
