Chris Brown Says He's Quitting Music Business, Next Album Will Be His Last

A day after being jailed in connection with an ongoing hit and run case filed against him earlier this summer, Chris Brown took to Twitter on Tuesday to announce he’s now planning to quit the music business.

“Don’t worry mainstream America,” Brown wrote. “After this X album it’ll probably be my last album. Being famous is amazing when it’s for your music and talent. I’m tired of being famous for a mistake I made when I was 18,” he added referring to his infamous and vicious 2009 attack on then girlfriend Rihanna that ended up with him being sentenced to probation.

“I’m cool and over it,” Brown added, maintaining his long held stance that Rihanna has also forgiven him for the incident.

On Monday, Brown spent about an hour in custody after turning himself into L.A. police stemming from the hit and run incident that led to the revocation of his probation. Since he wasn’t formally arrested on the day of the accident, Brown was required to turn himself in to police in order to be officially booked for the crime.

Reports are Brown arrived at the Van Nuys jail just before 2:00 p.m. and was released on his own recognizance after being processed. Brown was able to come and go without incident, even though just hours before he arrived the courthouse was swarming with photographers as hip hop star 50 Cent appeared for a hearing related to domestic abuse charges he faces.

Brown’s album, X, is slated to be released on Aug. 26.
