NBA Trade News 2015: Nick Young, aka 'Swaggy P', Needs To Play Real 'D' [VIDEO]

Nick Young continues to be a forgotten role player for the Lakers, though he may be partly to blame.

The 30-year-old has proven himself to be a good offensive weapon but it seems that this is the only department where he can be relied on. So when placed on the floor, the obvious is that he is there to score and well, nothing else.

In short, he lacks the other facets like assisting, rebounding and most of all playing defense, as singled out by Bleacher Report.

With that said, Young’s name comes into play only perhaps when the Lakers find themselves on a scoring drought. But in normal circumstances, he becomes more of a liability than an asset which is why perhaps head coach Byron Scott is having a hard time using him over the others who can do a little bit of the intangibles.

Until their game against the Timberwolves, Young has played a total of seven minutes in the past four games. Scott has opted to use Kobe Bryant or even Metta World Peace instead, which should be pretty frustrating for Young who has a continuously diminished role from the bench.

And seeing such, it comes as no surprise that his name has been tied to possible trade rumors, but that is if any team is willing to take in his remaining two-year contract that is worth about $11 million.

Right now, his production does not exactly justify his value and Young may want to start doing small things like defending, passing and rebounding. It doesn’t have to be a dramatic turnaround, but an added dimension to raise his stock value up. His defense doesn't have to be compared to Drake's rapping skills.

At the rate things are going, it is unlikely that Young will be a Laker for long, as detailed by Basketball Insiders.

With Kobe retiring, the Lakers are likely to clean house and rid themselves of players with high contracts. Aside from Young, Roy Hibbert could be moved soon with his $16 million lease.

The move seems to be imminent, especially considering the Lakers are likely to make a serious go at Kevin Durant, the top free agent prospect this 2016.
