Dallas Cowboys News: Tony Romo's Presence Would Not Have Saved Season [VIDEO]

It turns out quarterback Kellen Moore may not have been the answer at quarterback for the Cowboys, either. Then again, Tony Romo may not have been able to save the Cowboys' 2015 season.

Dallas castoff quarterback Brandon Weeden came in for the Texans and helped Houston rout Tennessee 34-6 on Sunday, accomplishing something he never could do during his two years with the Cowboys -- win a game he started.

Weeden threw for 200 yards with two touchdowns, and he ran for another score against a Tennessee team without quarterback Marcus Mariota, diminishing the accomplishment a tad. But that game may speak more about the state of the Cowboys than Romo's injury.

Dallas was lucky to win its season opener with Romo, simply because of the Giants' inability to manage the clock down the stretch. Weeden then came in for an injured Romo to preserve a win over an overrated Eagles team in Week 2.

Romo won his return game against a bad Miami team, but would he have been able to lift the Cowboys to five more wins to set up Dallas for what would have been a regular-season finale against the Redskins for the NFC East title?

The Cowboys lost four games in which their defense kept the opponent from reaching 20 points. So Romo supporters will argue that he certainly could've made a difference in those games.

However, the following evidence suggests that Romo might not have been the Cowboys' savior. Weeden had a quarterback rating of 116.7 in the Texans' win over the Titans. Moore had a 48.6 rating in the Cowboys' loss to the Bills in Week 16, For the Win reported.

Did Weeden suddenly become that much better as a quarterback?

No, the Texans are just that much better a team than the Cowboys. Dallas rode the legs of DeMarco Murray in 2014 to a 12-4 regular-season record and was able to protect Romo. The Cowboys didn't have that in 2015, and even if Romo had stayed healthy, the team around him was not good enough to compete for a playoff berth.
