It was an interesting year of love in the wide world of sports as some couples didn't make it out of the gate (Tim Tebow and Olivia Culpo) and others enter 2016 fully intact and seemingly ready to take the next giant leap (Russell Wilson and Ciara).
Here are three couples that will ring in 2016 intact, but are unlikely to watch the ball drop together by the time 2017 rolls around.
James Harden, Khloe Kardashian Surprsingly Still Together
1) James Harden & Khloe Kardashian
At some point, the drama is going to be too much for the Rockets star. Kardashian's divorce to Lamar Odom was halted after he nearly lost his life due to binging on drugs at a Nevada brothel. Since the incident, the reality star spends a lot of time by Odom's side in the hospital and has been supporting him financially on his long road to recovery.
Harden reportedly was contemplating breaking up with the reality star when she was spotted at a concert with another ex-boyfriend, French Montana, last month. If Harden's play on the court is any indication, the drama is getting to him and he'll likely call it quits sometime in 2016.
2) Justin Verlander & Kate Upton
The Tigers ace and the smokin' hot model started dating in 2011, but they briefly broke up earlier this year, showing that not everything is perfect in their world. It's possible that the age gap could eventually catch up to them as Upton is just 23, while Verlander is 32. Things could once again hit a rough patch in 2016.
3) Cristiano Ronaldo & Melanie Martins
The Portugese soccer superstar was linked to the Portugese-French model, but given his knack for being a playboy, it's unlikely the relationship lasts. Ronaldo has been linked to models Irina Shayk, Gemma Atkinson and Alice Goodwin, but he's never been able to settle down.
Ronaldo has already said that Martins is "one of a few" ladies in his life, so she may get sick of him not being able to commit or he may choose one of his other women over the model in the New Year.
