NBA News: Anthony Davis Losing More Than An All-Star Spot [VIDEO]

The NBA All-Star Game starters are officially out and mysteriously absent are the big men.

Among the names missing from the group were Blake Griffin, Andre Drummond and Anthony Davis, big names that certainly deserve to be there. Regardless, it is futile to debate about it since that is how fan voting went.

Besides, the left out names could easily get to Toronto on the reserve list, but for some players, that may not matter much. One player who stands to lose big is Davis.

The issue with the Pelicans' franchise player has to do with contract.

‘The King’ Agrees With ‘The Notorious’ On Obsession

Davis signed a five-year, $145 million extension last summer, but thanks to a CBA ruling, he is eligible for the “Rose Rule.” This means that if a player satisfies certain conditions, he can receive a higher maximum salary, which runs to about $23 million as pointed out by CBS Sports.

Among the conditions a player has to satisfy include:

  1. Being named to the All-NBA first-, second- or third-team at least twice (Davis has done this once, but has a decent shot to do it again this season)
  2. Voted as a starter to the All-Star Game twice (Davis has also done this once)
  3. Named NBA MVP (Davis has never done this)

Davis was halfway there, and that big pay raise could have been a lock had he been selected to start this year's All-Star Game. Unfortunately for him, his performance this season apparently hasn't warranted that.

Davis needs to make a serious run in the second half to try to once again make an All-NBA team. Failing to do so will force him to kiss that $23 million raise goodbye.

Davis has been set back by injuries, but it is still not too late. He still has time to cover lost ground but it will be close one. Considering the NBA houses a lot of elite forwards right now, Davis might have to do something Herculean to pull it off.
