New York Mets Rumors: Steven Matz Hoping His Girlfriend's Country Music Career Will Mirror His Early Success On The Diamond [PHOTOS, VIDEOS]

Steven Matz hopes for sustained success in New York, while his girlfriend has dreams of her own star continuing to rise in Nashville.

Both the Mets left-hander and the budding country singer are at similar points in their careers, finding early prosperity, but hoping to continue to rise. They're both also rooting each other on every step of the way.

Matz exploded onto the MLB scene when he fit in flawlessly in a young Mets rotation full of aces. The southpaw made his MLB debut last July 28 and allowed just two runs on five hits while striking out six over 7 2/3 innings in a 7-2 victory.

He had an injury-riddled campaign from that point forward, but still managed to make his postseason and World Series debut last October. Overall, Matz went an impressive 4-0 with a dazzling 2.27 ERA in the regular season and followed it up by going 0-1 with a 3.61 ERA in the playoffs.

Matz's girlfriend, Taylor Cain, is also looking for her big break out, only in her case it comes in the form of country music, not throwing baseballs.

Cain is part of a country music trio, along with her brother Logan and sister Madison, according to the New York Post. Cain plays guitar and sings in the band, which has had some of its songs playing on SiriusXM Radio.

"They are getting there,'' Matz told the Post about The Cains, adding he spent a month with them in Nashville this offseason.

While his girlfriend is "getting there" in Music City, Matz is going along quite nicely himself in the Big Apple.

The left-hander is part of a splendid young rotation for the Mets that includes Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard, while Zack Wheeler will return from Tommy John surgery in June or July to add to the Amazin's formidable rotation.

Matz had a busy offseason, helping his grandfather, doing charitable work in Honduras, visiting his girlfriend in Nashville and helping out his high school coach at Ward Melville H.S. on Long Island.

The 24-year-old pitcher is all business now though, as he's already working out in preparation for the season.

It seems Matz is poised to make it big in New York, while his girlfriend does the same in Nashville.
