WWE Superstar and wrestling icon Sting appears to be getting set to call it a career.
"The Vigilante" had his one and only shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship when he battled Seth Rollins for the richest prize in the game at Night of Champions in September. A neck injury he suffered in that bout may have ended his career.
Sting, 56, has reportedly met with doctors who have told him it will be too risky for him to get back in the ring due to the problems caused by his neck injury, according to TMZ.
Per the report, the former WCW and TNA World Heavyweight Champion was diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis, which can cause severe pain and discomfort -- especially when trying to wrestle.
"The Icon" is set to get inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as the headliner for the Class of 2016 on April 2, the eve of WrestleMania 32 in Dallas. Sting resides in Texas, and there are rumors he may make the formal announcement about his retirement during his enshrinement into the Hall.
Sting rose to prominence in the 1980's and eventually became the face of WCW as its biggest fan favorite during the '90s. He then found success in TNA, eventually earning his place as the first-ever inductee into Dixie Carter's company's Hall of Fame.
There were always rumors he'd eventually come to the WWE, but despite WCW closing its doors for good in 2001, Sting remained away from Vince McMahon's promotion. That is until 2014, when "The Vigilante" finally made his presence known by interfering in the main event of the Survivor Series.
From there, he went on to have a feud with Triple H, leading to his very first match in a WWE ring, which occurred last year when he battled "The Game" at WrestleMania 31 live from Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. Sting came up on the losing end that day, but seeing him in a WWE ring was something fans longed for.
His next high-profile match may have proved to be his last as he injured his neck against Rollins after "The Architect" hit him with the Buckle Bomb and Sting landed wrong.
Though his long-awaited tenure in the WWE was a quick one and didn't include a dream match against The Undertaker, Sting has had a great career and he will achieve the highest honor in wrestling come April 2.
