NFL Rumors: Ben Roethlisberger Hints Retirement Days After Steelers Lose to Patriots in AFC Title Game

The Pittsburgh Steelers failed to advance to the Super Bowl on Sunday when they lost to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game. A couple of days after the loss, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger revealed that he might not come back to play football next season.

The Steelers were not the favorites in the AFC Championship Game against the Patriots. Tom Brady led New England in the 36-17 win as the Patriots exposed Pittsburgh's defense. "Big Ben" had a subpar game for the Steelers as he only completed 31 out of his 47 pass attempts for 314 yards, per NFL.com.

Roethlisberger also threw for just one touchdown and had one interception. His young running back Le'Veon Bell and wide receiver Antonio Brown was also no match for the Patriots defense. However, it seems like the loss is not the only thing the 34-year-old QB is thinking about.

In an appearance on "The Cook and Poni Show" on Tuesday, Roethlisberger was asked if he would be coming back next season. Surprisingly, he answered that he has to think about it in the offseason and talk to his family.

The two-time Super Bowl champion added that he will consider all of his options, as well as his health. It should be noted that Roethlisberger suffered a handful of injuries in the last couple of years. Although he is only 34 years old, his body has taken quite a hit during his career.

"I'm going to take this offseason to evaluate, to consider all options. To consider health, and family and things like that and just kind of take some time away to evaluate next season, if there's going to be a next season," Roethlisberger said, via CBS Pittsburgh.

According to Peter King of Sports Illustrated, Roethlisberger is not going to retire this offseason. He pointed out that the Steelers QB is just frustrated with three key members of the team: Brown, head coach Mike Tomlin and offensive coordinator Todd Haley.
