Jack Swagger Released: Can Former WWE World Champion Have a Career in MMA?

Jack Swagger has revealed in an interview that he has asked for his release from the WWE and it has been granted. He noted that he could pursue a career in mixed martial arts but can he be successful in the sport?

In an appearance on Beyond the Fight podcast on March 1, Swagger told host Chael Sonnen that he has asked for his release from his WWE deal. He noted that it was granted but his last date with the WWE has not been made official.

Jack Swagger is a former WWE World Heavyweight champion but he has been used sparingly in the past couple of years. He was given a big push when he started in the WWE back in 2008 and it lasted until 2013. All things went downhill for him after getting arrested for marijuana possession in February 2013.

As for what's next for his career, Swagger noted that he could wrestle in Mexico and Japan where many former WWE superstars have made a name for themselves. He also pointed out the possibility of entering mixed martial arts as long as the price is right.

"The world of wrestling is broadening and it's a great time to be a wrestler. I'm young. I'm very excited about going to Mexico, Japan. If someone wants to pay me to get in the cage, I'm down," Swagger said, via comicbook.com.

If a promotion pays Jack Swagger to fight inside an MMA cage, he has a chance of winning because of his wrestling background. He was an All-American back in college at the University of Oklahoma and his athletic background can help him be successful in a new sport.

Jack Swagger is not the first WWE superstar to venture on MMA. Brock Lesnar, CM Punk, Bobby Lashley, Kid Kash, Batista and Ken Shamrock have all competed inside the cage. However, only Lesnar, Lashley and Shamrock have had success in the sport.
