NBA Legend "Dr. J" Julius Erving Signed As Head Coach In Inaugural BIG3 Season

This coming summer, the legend who is known for the "Rock The Baby" cradle dunk will be back on the field that will surely draw crowds of all ages. Julius Erving will make his comeback on the court, this time as a coach for the inaugural season of BIG3.

BIG3 President and Commissioner Roger Mason, Jr. expressed his excitement with the legend joining the country's first ever professional 3-on-3 league based on the article from CBS Sports. His in-your-face style of play transformed the game as we knew it, and we're privileged to have his basketball acumen, and passion for the game as a coach in the BIG3."

The signing of the ABA and NBA star was made official through the league's Twitter account @thebig3. He will be joining all other hall of famers such as Allen Iverson, Charles Oakley, George Gervin, Rick Mahorn, Rick Barry, Clyde Drexler and Gary Payton.

Through their official website, the opening game of the season will be held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on June 25th. Founder League founder Ice Cube said that Brooklyn has been in their radar. The rapper and actor also said that having the first game of the season at Brooklyn is just a perfect setting. All the following games will be played in different cities every weekend to get the 3-on-3 basketball closer to everybody from across the country.

Unlike Iverson and Oakley who declared themselves as playing coaches, Erving will only be staying at the sidelines. Some of the players who are part of the draft pool are Jason Williams, Josh Childress, Rashard Lewis, Jermaine O'Neal, Chauncey Billups, Kenyon Martin, Brian Scalabrine and more.

Saddened due to several players who are retiring despite the talents that they still possess, Ice Cube decided to build BIG3 to give those players a chance to showcase their skills and prove everybody that they still have it.
