The National Football League has confirmed that Washington Commandeers owner Daniel Snyder is found guilty of sexual and financial misconduct and is now ordered to pay $60 million in fines.

The punishment was crafted after a lengthy investigation that involved hiring an outside lawyer in US Attorney Mary Jo White.

The investigation stems from sexual misconduct and financial improprieties filed against Snyder starting in 2020. Former team employee and cheerleader Tiffani Johnston claimed that Snyder placed his hand on her thigh and even tried to put her in his limousine forcibly.

In line with this, NFL owners voted unanimously for selling the Commandeers to Josh Harris, ending Snyder's run with the team at 24 years.

Harris and Snyder first came to a principle agreement on the sale in April this year, with new owners set to pay $6 billion. Snyder purchased the team for $800 million in 1998.

In 2023, the Washington NFL club was voted the worst team to play for in a survey conducted by NFL Players Association.

Commissioner Roger Goodell welcomes the findings

Commissioner Roger Goodell immediately released a statement concerning the findings on Snyder, stating:

"The conduct substantiated in Ms. White's findings has no place in the NFL. We strive for workplaces that are safe, respectful and professional. What Ms. Johnston experienced is inappropriate and contrary to the NFL's values."

He also welcomed the new ownership, which he believes will positively impact Washington football and the community as a whole.

"I know he has a commitment to winning on the field, but also to running an organization that everyone will be proud of - and to making positive contributions in the community."
