Novak Djokovic will no longer participate in the Canadian Open in Toronto, Canada, leaving the tournament with one less superstar.
Tournament director Karl Hale said he was disappointed by the development, but he understands the record Grand Slam winner's decision.
"Of course, we're disappointed that Novak won't be playing at the National Bank Open this year," Hale said.
"He's an incredible player and one we know our fans were eager to watch at Sobeys Stadium."

Hale added that the Canadian Open will barely miss Djokovic's gravity as it still features the world's best.
"He will be missed but we still have a long list of sensational players confirmed for this year's event, including 41 of the top 42 players in the world."
He won the Canadian tournament four times.
Djokovic expresses regret for his withdrawal
Djokovic took his name off the National Bank Open contenders list to focus on his recovery after his grueling battle with Carlos Alcaraz at the Wimbledon Open this month.
That would have been his 24th Grand Slam title, but he bowed to the 20-year-old in five sets, 1-6, 7-6(8-6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.
"I have always enjoyed my time in Canada but after speaking with my team, we believe this is the right decision to take," he said in a statement.
"I would like to thank Karl Hale, the tournament director, for understanding this decision. I really hope I can return to Canada and Toronto in the coming years to play in front of great fans there."
