Top officials for FC Barcelona are divided on bringing back forward Neymar after he expressed his desire to leave Paris Saint-Germain for a move back to the Spanish giants.

Internal debates have occurred inside the club about the potential move, but manager Xavi Hernandez does not think Neymar is the right fit for his squad despite Ousmane Dembele's impending departure to PSG, who occupies the same position as Neymar on the wing.

The Barca boss prefers bringing in a right-back and an attacking midfielder, but other club officials, including president Joan Laporta, might favor bringing back Neymar despite the coach's opposition.

It is widely known that Barcelona is in the middle of a massive financial crisis, which complicates the move in terms of a transfer fee and salary, even if Neymar is ready to make compromises.

PSG would be fine with the 31-year-old departing the French capital, even going as far as willing to negotiate a loan deal with Barca to accommodate the player's request while softening the financial burden for the Spanish club.

Neymar is coming off a turbulent season

The Brazilian superstar started off the 2022-23 season on a high note, getting named Ligue 1's Player of the Month in August, having 13 goal contributions in their first five league matches.

A right ankle injury sustained in the 2022 FIFA World Cup group stage derailed his momentum, and he re-injured the same ankle during a PSG game in March.

Neymar was subsequently ruled out of the season to undergo surgery and rehabilitation.
