Yaqub Talib, brother of former 12-year NFL veteran cornerback Aqib Talib, has been sentenced to 37 years of jail time for his involvement in a shooting that led to the death of youth football coach Michael Hickmon during a youth football game last summer.

The five-time Pro Bowl selection was present when his older brother learned of his fate in a Dallas County courtroom on Monday morning.

The two parties got into a heated dispute during an August 13, 2022, youth football game wherein the Talib brothers were coaching a team at the Lancaster Community Park in Texas.

The brothers reportedly got upset with Hickman due to a call in the game, leading to an altercation.

Former NFL cornerback allegedly started the brawl

Witnesses stated that the 2016 First Team All-Pro selection started the brawl, ultimately leading to his brother shooting the North Texas football coach. However, Aqib was not named in the police report.

Yaqub Talib voluntarily surrendered two days later at the Dallas County Jail.

Aqib Talib played college football for the University of Kansas Jayhawks before getting drafted with the 20th overall pick by Tampa Bay in the 2008 NFL Draft.

The 37-year-old spent 12 seasons in the NFL, playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Rams, and Miami Dolphins. He won the Super Bowl 50 with the Broncos in February 2016.
