The Dallas Mavericks are looking to shoot for a title in the upcoming 2023-24 NBA season, with their superstar Luka Doncic and recent addition Kyrie Irving leading the way.

The team is planning to stretch and waive veteran big man JaVale McGee and bring back free agent Markieff Moris for a nonguaranteed deal, according to reports by league insiders Shams Charania of The Athletic and Marc Stein.

McGee signed a three-year contract worth $20 million with the Mavs in July 2022 for his second stint with the team, having previously played for Dallas in 2015-16.

The 35-year-old was relegated to the bench after being the team's starting center for seven games. He played sparingly for the rest of the year.

Meanwhile, Morris was a former Net who was a part of the deal that sent Irving to the Mavericks. He appeared in eight games for Dallas last season and will turn 34 in less than two weeks.

Busy offseason for the Dallas Mavericks

After acquiring former Celtics forward Grant Williams and guard Seth Curry among other moves this offseason, the team signed star Kyrie Irving and big man Dwight Powell to long-term contracts.

The Mavericks missed out on a play-in tournament spot last season, going 38-44 and 11th in the loaded Western Conference despite trading for Irving in February 2023. The team went 8-18 in its final 26 games en route to a disappointing campaign.
