Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles continue to soar this NFL season, but their Week 3 win, 25-11, over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers included something special for the dual-threat quarterback.

The 25-year-old entered the record books after making the 29th rushing touchdown of his career in the third quarter.

Jalen Hurts now has the most rushing touchdowns of any quarterback in his first 50 games in NFL history, overtaking Cam Newton for this honor, Sports Center reported.

The 2018 Sugar Bowl MVP achieved the feat despite entering the game with flu-like symptoms, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. He finished 23-of-37 for 277 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions while adding 28 yards and a score on the ground as a runner, per Bleacher Report.

Hurts joins NFL QB list

However, that was not the only feat that Hurts achieved against the Bucs.

After winning his 10th consecutive road start, the Pro Bowler joins Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson as the only quarterbacks aged 25 years old or younger to win that many successive starts, CBS Sports reported.

Newton wouldn't mind playing backup to Hurts

Ironically, Cam Newton mentioned in April that Hurts was someone he wouldn't mind backing up.

The 2015 NFL MVP award winner mentioned 12 quarterbacks he wouldn't mind playing backup to when he spoke to NFL scribe Dov Kleiman. That list includes Deshaun Watson, Malik Willis, Sam Howell, Aaron Rodgers, and Tua Tagovailoa.

Newton last saw action with the Carolina Panthers in 2021, his second coming with the team where he rose to prominence. The 34-year-old remains one of the notable free-agent quarterbacks in the NFL market.
