Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals is done for the season due to a wrist injury, according to head coach Zac Taylor on Friday, November 17.

Burrow was injured in the Bengals Week 11 matchup with the Baltimore Ravens. After being initially listed as questionable, the 26-year-old somehow managed to return to the game and play through the injury, CBS Sports reported. Unfortunately, the Bengals lost to the Ravens, 20-34.

Was Burrow injured before the Ravens' game?

Taylor initially called Burrow's case a sprained wrist. However, the 2021 NFL Comeback of the Year got a lot of attention on social media after he was seen coming out of the team bus with some wrap on his wrist, NFL.com reported.

Burrow claimed that the wrap had nothing to do with his injury.

"The play before it happened, I landed on my wrist a little bit and the next play, the touchdown pass, I just felt a pop in the middle of the throw," Burrow said. "Tried to give it a go, but just couldn't get it done. Obviously, got the news today, so not great."

Aside from that spotting, there was the instance when Burrow had a problem gripping the ball.

This happened after trainers in the blue medical tent checked him. He practiced some throws after that, but cameras caught one pass attempt fumbling out of his hands, with the former LSU Tiger appearing to be in a lot of pain.

He would subsequently be replaced by Jake Browning, who is also likely to take over as Bengals QB moving forward.

How long will Burrow be out?

Burrow is officially out for the season, and there is no official word on when he could return from his injury. However, this will depend on the grade classification of Burrow's injury.

Assuming that it is a grade 1 sprain, the earliest that Burrow can return is one to three weeks, while a grade 2 sprain will take 3 to 6 weeks.

However, a grade 3 sprain would take an athlete several months to recover. The kind of wrist injury Burrow sustained remains unknown as of this writing.

Bengal's Super Bowl dream snuffed?

With Burrow out, the Bengals' Super Bowl dreams took a major hit. Browning will be tasked to fill the void left by Burrow. Tanner Hudson is expected to serve as the backup QB, per ESPN.

As far as Browning is concerned, he is confident he can hold up the fort. And his attitude has drawn the admiration of the people around him, particularly Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd.

"As long as that quarterback is confident, he's sitting back there and he's ready to make magic and do everything he got to do to help us win and lead us, I'm always going to follow behind him and do what I can to help him," Boyd said.

The Bengals will be facing the Pittsburgh Steelers next on November 26.
