The Dallas Mavericks found themselves in an excellent position to contend for an NBA championship, particularly with the presence of two basketball all-time greats at the top of their game on their roster - Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

Despite boasting a roster filled with talent, the Mavs are positioned in the middle of the pack in the fiercely competitive Western Conference.

Currently holding the sixth seed with a 24-18 win-loss record, there is a potential need for additional firepower to elevate their competitiveness in the conference.

What should Dallas Mavericks trade for Kyle Kuzma

Washington Wizards receive: Grant Williams, Richard Holmes, Dante Exum, and a 2025 second-round pick

Dallas Mavericks receive: Kyle Kuzma

Even though Dallas sacrificed a considerable amount of capital to acquire Kyrie Irving in February 2023, the team still has remaining assets that can be strategically utilized for another attempt at reinforcing their roster.

Kuzma is a sizable and versatile wing player capable of contributing both on and off the ball, providing the flexibility for Doncic and Irving to showcase their skills on the court.

The 6-foot-9 forward is also a dependable scorer with a firm shooting stroke, enhancing floor spacing and introducing another offensive threat to the team.

The 28-year-old could serve as a reliable third option on a team with championship aspirations, a role he successfully fulfilled with the Los Angeles Lakers alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis during their 2020 NBA championship victory at the bubble.

Kuzma has been impressive this season, averaging 21.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. He maintains efficient shooting with a 45.5 percent field goal clip and a solid 34.1 percent from beyond the arc in the 42 games he has played. Both his points and assists averages are at career-high levels this season.

In return, the Wizards would receive valuable compensation for 2018 NBA All-Rookie First Team members, aiding in their rebuilding efforts for the future as they continue to be one of the worst teams in the league today.

The salaries of Williams, Holmes, and Exum roughly align with Kuzma's, and a 2025 second-round pick is included to enhance the attractiveness of the deal.

Despite being the Mavericks' fifth-highest-paid player, Holmes has seen limited contributions and court time, averaging only 10 minutes per game.

Meanwhile, Exum is currently experiencing a career resurgence, potentially at the peak of his trade value, and Williams has demonstrated his reliability as a solid option in the low post with occasional three-point shooting prowess.

In a potential transaction, the inclusion of a third team could be contemplated to help with salary cap relief. Much like the involvement of the New Orleans Pelicans in the Pascal Siakam trade, where they sent Kira Lewis Jr. and a 2024 second-round pick, this additional team could play a role in the deal and receive cash considerations.
