Justin Fields: 3 Reasons Falcons Should Trade for Him

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields is considered one of the most promising players in the league.

After several challenging seasons in the Windy City, there is speculation that it might be time for him to consider a move, especially since the team holds the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, featuring a class filled with elite quarterbacks. It is implied that the team is ready to move on from Fields.

The Atlanta Falcons have emerged as prominent contenders to acquire former Georgia Bulldogs and Ohio State Buckeyes player, creating notable buzz around the potential move.

Here are several reasons Justin Fields would be the perfect quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons.

3 reasons Falcons should trade for Justin Fields

1. Justin Fields' contract and cost

Entering the final year of his rookie NFL contract in 2024, Fields is set to earn $3.2 million, with $1.6 million allocated to his base salary and roster bonus, according to Spotrac.

Given that the Chicago Bears possess the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the potential cost for Atlanta to acquire Fields may involve just two third-round NFL Draft picks. This could make the trade a worthwhile risk for the Falcons.

2. Centerpiece of a new era for the team

The Falcons dismissed head coach Arthur Smith last month on Black Monday following another disappointing season.

In their pursuit of rejuvenation for the upcoming season, they aim to usher in a new era by hiring Raheem Morris as their new head coach. With this reshuffle, Fields is viewed as the ideal quarterback to spearhead this new era for the team.

With a 7-10 record last year, good for third in the AFC South Division and missing the postseason altogether, their performance was attributed to their defense and an array of offensive weapons. Adding a signal-caller with great potential to the mix allows the team to elevate to new heights.

The 24-year-old is considered more capable of making throws to wide receiver Drake London and tight end Kyle Pitts than Desmond Ridder or even Marcus Mariota, another quarterback formerly associated with the Falcons.

Fields' challenges in Chicago are often attributed to the lack of a supporting cast around him, while Ridder faces difficulties in performing despite having talent around him.

3. Justin Fields' local roots

Born and raised in Kennesaw, Georgia, a suburban city northwest of Atlanta in Cobb County within the greater Atlanta metropolitan area, Fields likely dreamed of playing for his hometown team.

His connection is further highlighted by his first college football season with the Georgia Bulldogs in 2018, showcasing an affinity for his local ties.

Local solid roots could endear Fields to Falcons supporters, creating a positive relationship with the fanbase that will likely translate into on-field enthusiasm, support, and, hopefully, success.
