Naoya Inoue Officially Set to Defend Undisputed Super Bantamweight Title Against Mexican Challenger

Undisputed super bantamweight world champion Naoya Inoue will defend all his belts against Mexican challenger Luis Nery on May 6, 2024, at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan.

The championship bout, set to take place during the annual Mexican Cinco de Mayo weekend, will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and Amazon's Prime Video streaming platform in Japan, per Top Rank.

Inoue holds the distinction of being the first-ever undisputed champion in the super bantamweight division.

This fight against Nery will be his first title defense since triumphing over Filipino fighter Marlon Tapales last December, claiming the WBA and IBF titles to add to his existing WBC and WBO belts.

"Luis Nery is a very strong fighter, so I will have to be at the top of my game," Inoue said in the press conference where the fight was announced on Tuesday, March 5.

On the flip side, Nery has emerged victorious in his last four fights, with the last three culminating in knockout victories.

Naoya Inoue is on a hot streak

The 30-year-old Japanese fighter boasts an impeccable professional boxing record of 26-0, with an impressive 23 victories achieved through knockout.

Inoue has excelled in his recent performances, securing his last seven wins via TKO or KO.

His most recent decision win dates back to November 2019 when he faced Filipino fighter Nonito Donaire.
